Leading children’s charity Barnardo’s is launching an exciting new partnership with the universally adored TV show Teletubbies.  Next year Barnardo’s hopes shoppers and fundraisers will go “Laa-Laa” for the collaboration and raise valuable funds for vulnerable children.

From May 2017, shoppers will be able to buy special Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po limited edition merchandise from Barnardo’s shops across the UK to help support disadvantaged children in the UK.

The Teletubbies, who are celebrating 20 years of big hugs in 2017, will also be supporting the Barnardo’s Big Toddle, the largest annual fundraising event for under five year-olds, which is marking its 20th birthday too.

Javed Khan, Barnardo’s Chief Executive, said: “We’re delighted to announce our new partnership with Teletubbies next year. 2017 is going to be a very exciting year for Barnardo’s and we’re thrilled Teletubbies will be a part of that.”

Charlotte Hill, Teletubbies’ Senior Brand Manager at DHX Brands, said: “Teletubbies celebrates play, love and laughter, so working with the UK’s leading children’s charity that helps to improve vulnerable children’s lives is a natural fit for the brand.”

Teletubbies returned to television with a brand new series last year.  Multi award-winning, Teletubbies is designed to encourage young children to watch television creatively. Full of fun and exploration, it inspires confidence and curiosity and nurtures childhood development. A second series of the new-look Teletubbies will launch on CBeebies next year.

I've just completed a most interesting and enjoyable project for the Sussex Arts Academy (SAA) and this is the lovely message I received from David Sword, Project Director.

"On behalf of all the Directors I should like to thank you for the excellent work you have done for the SAA over both contract periods.  As I mentioned at the meeting, you have done a huge amount to raise awareness of the charity, and to draw in a wide range of key partners.  You have also enabled us to move the operational work on in a way that would not have been possible without your expertise, commitment and enthusiasm.  It has been great working with you, and I will keep you in touch with developments – and, no doubt, call on your services again at some point".

Arts and Culture Education Showcase Event

for Schools and Colleges in West Sussex

Thursday 6th November, Minerva Lounge,

Chichester Festival Theatre.

On Thursday 6th November 2014, the inaugural showcase of arts and culture educational enrichment programmes will take place at the Minerva Lounge, Chichester Festival Theatre.

Hosted by The Sussex Arts Academy, this Free event for schools and colleagues has been designed to create a "marketplace" enabling practitioners and educators to explore the opportunities for working more closely together for the benefit of all children and young people in education in the county.

The Sussex Arts Academy (SAA) is a registered charity which aims to provide easier access to the very best in arts and cultural education for the benefit of all children and young people in schools and colleges across West Sussex.

This will be achieved by connecting schools and colleges with enrichment programmes offered by lead practitioners and arts/cultural education providers, by facilitating access to venues, and by supporting showcase events, of which this is the first.

A bursary fund will be set up by the SAA to support those who would otherwise have difficulty in accessing these services.

Free places for the event, which runs from 10am - 2pm (including a buffet lunch), are available for members of staff at schools and colleges who specialise in the arts and cultural areas of the curriculum. In addition to the Showcase, attendees will be consulted on how the SAA should go about linking  teachers and arts programme providers together, and on how the bursary funds should be deployed.

Schools and Colleges which subscribe to e-PD you can book places through the e-PD system.  Those that are subscriber to e-PD, please contact Tracey Richardson (tracey-richardson@ampersand-ltd.co.uk) to reserve your places by Monday 3rd November.

On hearing of the event, The Duke of Richmond said, "As a long standing Patron of the Arts I'm delighted The Sussex Arts Academy ambition is to provide children and young people with access to the very best in arts and cultural education. The development of a bursary scheme is an extremely important aspect of this, ensuring there are no barriers to learning and participation. The arts and culture industry continues to grow, offering an ever widening range of employment opportunities. Education is key to exposing young people to the possibilities."

The SAA is committed to developing partnerships with a wide range of organisations and has  recently launched a partnership with Creatives Across Sussex, http://www.creativesacrosssussex.com having established a pilot partnership with e-PD, http://www.e-pd.org.uk to connect with schools and colleges.

Earlier this year I was invited to the launch of The Girls Network in Portsmouth and have rarely been to such an inspiring event.

http://www.thegirlsnetwork.org.uk is an award winning charity, established in London and Liverpool just extending to Portsmouth and Brighton.

The Girls’ Network is a charity that matches girls from low socio-economic backgrounds with inspirational female mentors from all walks of life. It is their mission to raise aspirations and remove the barriers from the girls’ path to success. Having just launched in Portsmouth and Brighton they are busy matching each girl with the perfect mentor for her needs.  TGN run workshops, networking events and experiences that the girl’s background would have never allowed for them otherwise. They are always on the lookout for different ways to inspire the girls.

The FACTS:

Of 16 year old girls from the poorest homes:
-      50% achieve no GCSE passes over grade D
-      Less than 6% make it into higher education
-      Only 2% reach the most selective universities

The impact on girls in the Girls’ Network Programme 2012 – 13:
-      100% met their target grades
-      78% exceeded their target grades by at least one level
-      All girls improved their character and score by at least 50%

I immediately identified the synergy between these young women and my fellow members of The Athena Network and began the process of bringing the two together.

I'm delighted to be part of this inaugural event and would welcome you all along.

You are cordially invited to attend a Shopping Day Charity Event to raise money for
